The Workhouse Arts Center
“I’m very excited about my new opportunity of being juried in as a resident studio artist at The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia. I am housed in my own Studio located in Studio Building 4, where I paint and work with over 100 artists in ten Galleries at the Arts Center. The complex will also eventually be home to a Museum, a Theatre, an Exhibition Hall and Restaurant, as well as the studios and galleries. I hope you stop by and say hello.”

How I work
When I paint in my studio as opposed to “plein air” painting outdoors, I will work from one of my own photographs that I have taken. Sometimes I take reference shots of the sunlight at a particular time of the day or the cast of a shadow on my subject. Sometimes, I actually shoot compositions that I would like to paint. But the photographs are always a way to help
me remember what it was that caught my eye on location somewhere. Often, I will even play music to re-create the feeling or mood of a particular place!
